Hey Benjamin, I would say that the houses in Philly are internet ready as long as you sign up for a plan. There are a few good providers but we are mainly using comcast. Comcast works like Singtel in a way as they provide bundled services so you want to look at getting your hp line from there too. However, how the phone system in US works is that you get to call your friend in the same hp provider network for free so you might want to make sure u get the same provider as everyone else. As for the additional materials needed, usually you just need to get a router and the other stuff are provided.

Hey Benjamin, Yeeling took over the internet plan from seniors...so she dint have to go through the hassle!! Anw, most houses are indeed with internet connection. But u gotta find out which company services your place, mine is verizon, yeeling's comcast, and the ludlow guys are comcast too. Secondly, there's an activation fee along with the purchase of modem for new users. So its a little different from Singapore, we cant choose here...basically what your apartment is wired with, you have to take it.
